Before You Call: AC & Furnace Checklist

Run through this before you call โ€” it solves more “no heat” and “no cool” calls than you’d think.

1 Power

Furnace power switch is ON
No tripped breaker for the furnace
No tripped breaker for the outdoor AC unit
Outdoor disconnect is fully seated

2 Thermostat

Set to Cool (AC) or Heat (furnace), past the current room temp
Screen isn’t blank or dim (check batteries)
Waited a full 5 minutes after changing the setting

3 Ice check

No ice on the indoor coil
No ice on the refrigerant lines (inside or outside)
Ice on any line? Turn the system OFF or set to Fan Only. Don’t keep running it โ€” this usually means low refrigerant or an airflow problem. Call a pro.

4 Outdoor unit

Outdoor fan is spinning
Small copper (suction) line feels cool/active, not just sitting warm

5 Indoor unit

Indoor blower is running (air moving from vents)
No humming/clicking with nothing starting

6 Filter

Filter is clean (you can see light through it)
Filter faces the correct direction (arrow points toward the furnace/air handler)

7 Vents

Supply and return vents are open and unblocked

Call a professional right away โ€” skip the checklist

You smell gas โ€” leave the house, call the gas company or 911, then us
A breaker keeps tripping after you reset it
Water is pooling near the furnace or indoor coil
Anything involving refrigerant (EPA-regulated, licensed techs only)
Still stuck? We run a full diagnostic for $80 โ€” credited toward the repair.
