AC Repair in South Jordan, UT — Failed Capacitor

This homeowner in South Jordan called on a Saturday with the air conditioner not cooling, even though the furnace was still running fine. We inspected the system and found the outdoor AC run capacitor reading zero MFD on both the fan and compressor terminals. It had failed internally and bulged, swelling rounder and larger than a healthy capacitor (you can see in the photo that it's domed instead of flat on top). With the supply houses closed for the weekend and the original being an unusual size, we installed a universal run capacitor to get the system cooling again that same day. The customer is back up and running, and we'll return to fit the correct OEM capacitor for long-term reliability.
