One efficient system that both heats and cools your home. We repair every brand of heat pump and install right-sized, cold-climate systems — commissioned to spec and documented. Heat pump repair, installation, and dual-fuel setups, done right and proven on paper.

Heating + cooling in one

How a heat pump works — and why it’s efficient

A heat pump looks and acts like an air conditioner in summer. The difference is a reversing valve: in winter it runs backward, pulling heat out of the outdoor air (even cold air holds heat) and moving it inside. Because it moves heat instead of burning fuel, it’s one of the most efficient ways to heat a home.

Cold-climate heat pumps use inverter compressors that keep producing heat well into cold weather — a real option in Utah. Many homes pair one with a gas furnace in a dual-fuel setup: the heat pump handles the milder months efficiently, and once it gets cold out — we typically set the furnace to take over around 35°F — the gas side carries the rest of winter. Whether you need a heat pump repair or a new heat pump installation, we handle every brand — ducted and ductless — with upfront pricing and a system commissioned to the manufacturer’s spec.

Repair

Heat pump repair on every brand

A heat pump runs year-round, so it sees more wear than a system that only cools. Here’s what we fix.

Won’t heat or won’t cool

If the heat pump cools but won’t heat (or the reverse), the issue is often the reversing valve, its solenoid, or a control/sensor fault. We test the valve and controls and confirm the system switches modes correctly — not just guess.

Iced-up outdoor unit / defrost problems

A little frost in winter is normal; a fully iced-over unit isn’t. We check the defrost board, sensors, and refrigerant charge so the unit defrosts on schedule instead of choking itself in ice.

Low refrigerant & leaks

Weak heating or cooling usually means low refrigerant — which means a leak, not a top-off. We find and repair the leak, pull a deep vacuum, and weigh in the exact charge.

Compressor, capacitor & electrical faults

We measure capacitor microfarads, compressor amp draw, and the contactor/board, and tell you honestly whether it’s a straightforward repair or whether the system is better replaced.

We also use an inspection camera to look inside the system for restrictions, blockages, and dust or debris buildup that rob efficiency and air quality. Every repair gets the Canyon Comfort Verified treatment — tested to spec and documented in a System Health Report — and is backed by our 1-year workmanship warranty, with a free diagnostic for 30 days after.

Installation & replacement

What’s included in every heat pump install

Sized, set up, and verified — standard on every install we do.

Right-sized with a real load calculation

We size your heat pump with a Manual J load calculation for your home, so it’s matched to your actual heating and cooling needs — not guessed or copied from the old unit.

Dual-fuel done right

If you’re keeping or adding a gas furnace, we set up the dual-fuel changeover so the heat pump runs in efficient weather and the furnace takes the coldest days — you get the lowest running cost without losing comfort.

Surge protection & float switch standard

Every install includes surge protection to guard the control board and compressor from electrical surges, and a condensate float switch on the indoor coil so a clogged drain can’t overflow into your furnace or air handler.

Commissioned to spec, documented, permitted

We verify airflow, charge, and the temperature split in both heating and cooling, confirm the system runs to the manufacturer’s spec, and email you a System Health Report — and every install is permitted and done to code.

Backed longer than most

10-year parts warranty + 2-year labor warranty

Install a heat pump with us and you’re covered two ways: a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty on select brands (with registration), plus our own 2-year labor warranty — double the industry standard — that includes free diagnostics if anything on the system acts up in those two years.

Upfront pricing & financing

Repair pricing & free install quotes

For a heat pump repair, our diagnostic is a flat $80 (credited toward the repair) and every repair is quoted upfront. For a new heat pump installation, you’ll get a free in-home estimate and a clear written proposal — the price depends on the system and your home.

A new system shouldn’t mean draining savings — we offer flexible financing, and heat pumps may qualify for rebates and tax credits we’ll help you find. See full pricing & service hours →

Heat pump FAQ

Heat pump questions

Do heat pumps work in cold Utah winters?

Yes — cold-climate (inverter) heat pumps keep producing heat well into cold weather. In a dual-fuel setup, a gas furnace takes over once it gets cold out (we typically set the changeover around 35°F), so you get efficient heat-pump heating in milder weather and gas heat through the deep cold.

My heat pump cools but won’t heat — what’s wrong?

Usually the reversing valve or its solenoid, a defrost control issue, or low refrigerant. We test the valve and controls and confirm the system switches modes correctly before quoting a repair.

Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a furnace?

Often, in mild weather — because it moves heat instead of burning fuel. Where natural gas is cheap and winters are cold, a dual-fuel pairing usually delivers the lowest overall running cost. We’ll compare both for your home.

What warranty comes with a new heat pump?

A 10-year manufacturer parts warranty on select brands (with registration), plus our own 2-year labor warranty that covers diagnostics if anything comes up in those two years.

Are there rebates or tax credits for heat pumps?

Often yes — heat pumps frequently qualify for utility rebates and federal tax credits. We’ll point you to what’s currently available and factor it into your quote.
