Pricing
How much does an HVAC diagnostic cost in Salt Lake City?
An $80 service call weekdays 7am–6pm, with $40 added weeknights until 10pm and all weekend, and it covers the full diagnosis. The $80 is credited toward any repair you approve.
Do you charge extra for evening or weekend service?
Yes, a little. Weekdays 7am to 6pm are our regular $80 service call; weeknights until 10pm and all weekend add $40.
How much does Sunday HVAC service cost?
Sunday HVAC service is $40 more, the same as weekday evenings and Saturdays. An $80 diagnostic becomes $120, and a $110 Full System Health Inspection becomes $150.
Is the diagnostic credited toward the repair?
Yes. If you approve the repair, the $80 service call comes off the total, so you are not paying twice. On evenings and weekends the $80 still credits; the $40 covers the extended-hours trip.
How much does an HVAC tune-up cost?
$110 for a single system, or $180 for your furnace and A/C together in one visit. If you run more systems than that, it is $110 for the first and $90 for each additional system in the same visit. Every tune-up ends with a written System Health Report.
How much is an airflow diagnostic?
$80 by appointment. Book it with an A/C or furnace tune-up and get 50% off the airflow diagnostic on the same visit. We measure static pressure on the supply and return side, read actual airflow and temperature split, and find the restriction instead of guessing at it.
How much does a portable A/C rental cost?
$150 covers delivery, setup and takedown, plus $20 a day. Days are counted by date, so the setup day and the pickup day each count as one. A third unit is $10 a day. You get two high-efficiency portable A/C units covering roughly 900 square feet together, plus a portable swamp cooler.
How much is a post-install inspection?
$150, and evening, Saturday and Sunday visits add the same surcharge as a service call. If another company installed your furnace, A/C or heat pump, we check the airflow, gas pressure, refrigerant charge, electrical and code compliance against the manufacturer’s own spec, and hand you the full written report.
What is the difference between a diagnostic and a tune-up?
A diagnostic is for when something is already wrong — we find the cause and quote the fix. A tune-up is preventive work on a system that still runs: a full multi-point service that catches small problems early and ends with a written report.
Hours & scheduling
We are a repair-only HVAC company. Here is exactly when.
What are your hours?
Monday through Friday 7am–10pm, Saturday 8am–10pm, and Sunday 8am–9pm. Those are the only windows we run.
Can you come out the same day?
Usually, yes. Appointments are normally open across our weekday, evening and weekend windows, so a morning call or text often means we are at your home that same day.
Are you a 24-hour emergency HVAC company?
We work evenings and weekends as part of our normal schedule — weekdays and Saturdays until 10pm, Sundays until 9pm. We are not a 24-hour company, and nothing runs past 10pm. If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, leave the home and call 911 or your gas company.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Canyon Comfort is insured and holds a Utah S350 HVAC contractor license for heating and cooling work and a B100 general contractor license. We only take on work allowed under our licenses and Utah DOPL rules and regulations.
Do you work on older furnaces and A/C systems?
Yes. Older furnaces and A/C systems are a specialty for Canyon Comfort because we are a repair-only HVAC company and do not sell new systems. We repair every brand, including older equipment other companies may consider too old to work on, and we check parts availability before making a visit that cannot lead to a repair. When age does matter, we use the same repair-or-replace framework we publish — so you can compare the repair cost against replacement without a sales push.
Can I rent a portable A/C while another company fixes my system?
Yes. We’re happy to provide portable cooling while another company handles the repair. The full cooling package is two high-efficiency portable A/C units plus a portable swamp cooler, usually delivered and set up the same day. Delivery, setup, and pickup are $150 total, plus $20 per rental day — the drop-off day and the pickup day each count. Call or text 801-960-5925 to check availability.
How do I book?
Book online any time, or call or text 801-960-5925. You see the price and the arrival window before you confirm, and we confirm the appointment with you within 24 hours.
What we do — and what we don’t
We would rather be clear about the edges of what we take on.
Do you install new furnaces and air conditioners?
No, we are a repair-only HVAC service. Our goal is to keep your system going for as long as repairing it still makes sense. When the day comes for a new system, we can recommend trusted local contractors to handle the installation. If we tell you it’s time to replace, it’s because we genuinely believe it’s time and wouldn’t feel right selling you a repair that could cost you more in the long run.
Do you install indoor air quality equipment?
Yes. Media filter cabinets, whole-home humidifiers, air scrubbers and UV purifiers we install ourselves, matched to the system you already have. We measure first and tell you plainly which one will actually help.
Do you repair ductless mini-splits?
Yes, on every brand. We repair mini-splits. If yours is not heating, not cooling, icing up or throwing a code, tell us what it is doing and we will say plainly whether we can help.
Do you repair heat pumps?
Yes, on every brand, including cold-climate and dual-fuel systems that both heat and cool.
Do you service all brands?
Yes. We service all HVAC brands, including Lennox, Goodman, Carrier, Rheem, Trane, Bryant, Amana, York, and other manufacturers. For swamp coolers, that includes Champion, MasterCool, Essick, Breezair, AeroCool, Phoenix, and other brands. Regardless of the type of equipment you have, we can get you taken care of.
Will you try to sell me a new system I don’t need?
No. Canyon Comfort is a repair-only HVAC contractor in Salt Lake City. We do not sell or install furnaces, air conditioners, or heat pumps, so there is no new system for us to upsell. If your existing HVAC system can be repaired, we’ll explain what we found. If replacement genuinely is the right call, we’ll say so plainly and show you why, and if you’d like, we’ll recommend a local installer we trust. When we tell you it’s time for a new system, you know it’s what we truly believe based on what we found with your equipment. You’re free to get your own replacement quotes and choose any installer you want. If you’d rather have help with that process, our HVAC Install Concierge collects three competing bids from installation companies for you to compare.
Do you do gas lines and ductwork?
Yes. Gas line work, duct repair, duct sealing and airflow corrections are all things we take on. Tell us what the job involves and we will say plainly whether it fits an evening or weekend visit. Do you really need duct cleaning?
Repair or replace
The question we get asked most, and the one worth getting right.
Should I repair or replace my A/C or furnace?
Age, condition, and repair cost all matter when deciding whether to repair or replace an A/C or furnace. Under 10 years old, we typically recommend repair unless the system has been neglected; from 10 to 15 years, a system in good condition is generally worth repairing when the repair stays under roughly 40% of the cost of a new system. Once a system is past 15 years old, we typically recommend repairs only up to about 8% of the price of a new installed system. That still makes small repairs like a capacitor or contactor worthwhile, while a large refrigerant leak, control board, compressor, or heat exchanger failure usually makes replacement the better option to consider. Older A/C systems that use R-22 refrigerant also deserve extra consideration when weighing the cost of a major repair.
When a system truly needs replacing, you get the diagnosis explained plainly — why a new system is the right call — and, if you want it, a recommendation for a trusted local installation company. What a proper install should look like.
Do you give free second opinions?
Yes, and they cost nothing. Send us what another company told you — the diagnosis and the price — and we will help you work out whether that is really the cause, whether it is a repair or a replacement, and whether the price is out of line. We cannot solve everything over a message, but we are happy to try.
Will you beat another company’s quote?
Not always, but we’ll always take a look. Send us the quote and we’ll give you a free online second opinion, and when we can match or beat the price, we’re happy to. We keep our repair pricing competitive, but we won’t promise to beat every quote. Canyon Comfort does not sell or install new HVAC systems, so we’ll review replacement quotes but won’t counter-bid them.
Tune-ups & the System Health Report
What actually gets measured, and what you walk away with.
What is included in a tune-up?
A real multi-point inspection, not a filter change with an invoice attached. We measure airflow, static pressure on the supply and return side, temperature split, gas pressure and combustion, and amp draws on every motor against rated spec. The outdoor condenser gets cleaned, the blower motor and wheel get inspected, and every electrical component gets tested.
What is a System Health Report?
A written record of your system’s actual numbers, handed to you after every tune-up and inspection. Real readings you can look up and verify yourself — not an opinion that it is “good to go.”
How often should I get a tune-up?
Once a year for each system is the real answer — the A/C in spring and the furnace in fall. If you only do one, make it the furnace, because the safety checks matter more.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
A 1-inch filter about every 3 months, and a 4–5 inch media filter about every 6. Along the Wasatch Front, inversion season and construction dust shorten those intervals, so check it rather than trusting the calendar. More on filter cadence in Utah homes.
Before you call
A few things worth checking — sometimes they save you a visit.
What should I check before calling for repair?
Check the thermostat is set and has working batteries, the breaker for the furnace or A/C, the power switch on the side of the furnace, and the furnace door panel — it will not run with the panel off. Then check the filter. A badly clogged filter causes a surprising share of no-heat and no-cool calls. Print the full before-you-call checklist.
My furnace will not turn on — what should I check first?
Thermostat, breaker or furnace power switch, and the door switch on the furnace panel. If it still will not fire after that, it is a repair call — and often something we can finish that same night, like an igniter, flame sensor, pressure switch or control board.
My A/C is running but the house is not cooling — what does that mean?
Most often a dirty filter, a frozen evaporator coil, a failed capacitor, or low refrigerant from a leak. If the outdoor unit is running but the air from the vents is not cold, turn the system to fan-only for a few hours to thaw a frozen coil, then call us. More A/C troubleshooting steps.
What should I do if I smell gas or the CO alarm goes off?
Leave the home and call 911 or your gas company from outside. Do not wait for us, and do not go back in to investigate. That is an emergency for the utility, not a service call.
Company
Who you are hiring and where we go.
What areas do you serve?
The Wasatch Front and the Wasatch Back — from Ogden south to Provo, and from Grantsville east to Coalville and Heber. Salt Lake City, Sandy, Draper, West Jordan, Murray and Park City all sit inside that area.
Who actually shows up at my house?
A licensed, insured technician from our own team — never a subcontractor. You will know who is coming before they arrive, and if you call us again you get people who already know your system.
Do you photograph the work?
Yes. Every job gets documented before, during and after, so you can see exactly what was wrong and exactly what we fixed rather than taking our word for it.
