Wrong size, sloppy refrigerant work, no commissioning, undersized ducts left alone. Two identical units can perform worlds apart depending on who put them in, so the install deserves as much scrutiny as the brand.
Right-sized to your home
A proper install is sized to your home — square footage, windows, insulation, and orientation — not guessed or just matched to the old unit. Right-sizing is one of the biggest factors in comfort, efficiency, and how long the system lasts. Ask whoever quotes you how they arrived at the size.
What should be included on any install
The details that protect your investment: surge protection and a condensate float switch standard, a fresh filter, a proper pull of vacuum and weighed-in refrigerant charge, a permit and code-compliant work, and a tidy, sealed finish. If a quote doesn’t mention these, ask why.
Commissioned and documented
Before anyone calls an install done, the system’s actual numbers should be measured — airflow, static pressure, temperature split, refrigerant charge, and a CO safety test — and handed to you in writing. Don’t just take an installer’s word that it runs right; ask for the proof.
How to verify it was done right
