Duct Sealing

Duct Sealing in the Salt Lake Valley

Leaky ducts can waste 20–30% of the air you pay to heat and cool — and in a Utah attic that hits 130°+ in summer, those leaks really cost you. We seal and insulate your ductwork so conditioned air reaches your rooms instead of your attic or crawlspace.

Where your money goes

Leaky ducts quietly waste a fortune

Most duct systems leak at the joints, seams, and connections — and a lot of that ducting runs through unconditioned attics and crawlspaces. Every bit of air that escapes is air you paid to heat or cool, dumped where it does no good. Worse, leaks on the return side pull in dusty, dirty attic air and push it through your home. Sealing those leaks is one of the highest-return improvements you can make — lower bills, more even temperatures, and less dust. See how it fits the bigger picture in our HVAC systems guide.

How we do it

Sealing the ducts — especially in the attic

Find the leaks

We inspect the duct runs, joints, boots, and connections — including the attic and crawlspace runs most leaks hide in — and measure static pressure so we know how the system is actually performing before and after.

Seal them properly

We seal the leaks with mastic and proper materials at the joints and connections (not just a strip of cloth tape that dries out and falls off), so the seal lasts. Disconnected or damaged sections get reconnected or replaced.

Insulate the attic runs

Sealing is half the job in an attic that bakes in summer and freezes in winter — we insulate the runs so the air doesn’t lose its heating or cooling on the way to your rooms. (We once measured a vent blowing air 14°F warmer than the AC coil, just from a single uninsulated attic duct.)

Verify the improvement

We re-check airflow and static pressure so you can see the difference, and it goes in your System Health Report. If the ducts need more than sealing, we’ll tell you — see ductwork and airflow work.

What you get

The payoff

  • Lower bills — you stop paying to condition your attic.
  • More even temperatures — rooms that ran hot or cold get their fair share of air.
  • Less dust — sealed returns stop pulling attic dust into your home.
  • A system that lasts — better airflow means less strain on the equipment.

Duct sealing FAQ

Duct sealing questions

How much air do leaky ducts waste?

Commonly 20–30% of conditioned air. In homes with ducts running through a hot attic, sealing and insulating them is one of the highest-return comfort and efficiency improvements available.

Will sealing my ducts lower my bills?

Usually yes — you stop paying to heat and cool your attic or crawlspace, and the system doesn’t have to run as long to keep you comfortable.

Is duct tape good for sealing ducts?

Ironically, no — standard cloth duct tape dries out and falls off. We seal with mastic and proper materials at the joints so the seal actually lasts.

Will it help with dust?

Often a lot — leaks on the return side pull dusty attic air into your home. Sealing them cuts the dust circulating through your house.
