FAQ

Common questions

What areas do you serve?

We cover the whole Wasatch Front — from Ogden down to Provo, and from Grantsville out to Heber and Coalville. That includes Salt Lake City, Sandy, Draper, West Jordan, South Jordan, Lehi, American Fork, Orem, Provo, Layton, Kaysville, Ogden, Park City, and dozens more. Not sure if you're in range? Just ask.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes — we offer free online estimates for HVAC repairs. For HVAC, send us the exact model of your system and the part you need, and we’ll write it up and send it over at no charge. An in-person HVAC visit starts with the $80 diagnostic, credited toward the repair. Already have a quote? We’ll give you a free online second opinion too. If you’re not sure what equipment you have or what part you need, call us and we’ll walk you through taking a picture of the unit’s tag so we can identify it.

Can you do electrical or plumbing work?

No. We do not offer electrical or plumbing work, and we only take on work allowed under our licenses and Utah DOPL rules and regulations. Not sure whether your project needs an electrician or a plumber? Give us a call and we’ll help you figure out the right route.

How soon can you come out?

Often the same day you call. We're a repair-only HVAC company — weekdays 7am–10pm, plus Saturdays and Sundays — so a morning call usually means we're at your door the same day. Call or text and we'll get you into the next available window — online booking needs 24 hours' notice. If we can't fully fix it that night, you can rent a portable A/C from us until it's done.

Are you a 24-hour emergency HVAC company?

We’re open for HVAC repairs until 10pm weekdays and Saturdays, and until 9pm Sundays — evening and weekend calls are our normal schedule, not an exception. We’re not a 24-hour company; our full hours are Monday through Friday 7am–10pm, Saturday 8am–10pm, and Sunday 8am–9pm. If you smell gas or a CO alarm is sounding, leave the home and call 911 or your gas company.

Do you charge extra for evening or weekend service?

Yes, a little. Weekdays 7am to 6pm are our regular $80 service call; weeknights until 10pm and all weekend add $40.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — we hold a Utah S350 HVAC contractor license and a B100 general contractor license, and we're EPA refrigerant certified, RMGA gas certified, and fully insured. Every job is done safely and to code.

Will you beat another company's quote?

We always try to. Our pricing is competitive, and depending on the quote, we can often match it or beat it. Send it over and we’ll give you a free online second opinion — if we can match or beat the price, we’ll happily do it. We don’t sell or install new HVAC systems ourselves, so replacement quotes are second opinions only.

Do you service all brands?

Yes — we repair and maintain HVAC systems from Lennox, Goodman, Carrier, Rheem, Trane, Bryant, Amana, York, and all other manufacturers. We also work on swamp coolers from Champion, MasterCool, Essick, Breezair, AeroCool, Phoenix, and other manufacturers. Regardless of the type of equipment you have, we can get you taken care of.

How much does HVAC repair cost in Salt Lake City?

The service call is $80 on weekdays 7am–6pm, with $40 added weeknights until 10pm and all weekend — that covers the full diagnosis, and it’s credited toward the repair if you move forward. Most A/C and furnace repairs in Salt Lake City typically start around $220 for simpler fixes and can reach a couple thousand dollars for the largest jobs. Many repairs come down to a single failed component like a capacitor, contactor, or igniter, which are among the more affordable fixes.

Should I repair or replace my A/C or furnace?

If your A/C or furnace is under 10 years old, it’s typically worth repairing unless the system has been neglected. From 10 to 15 years old, a system in good condition is usually worth repairing when the repair costs less than roughly 40% of a new system; if it’s aging prematurely, it may be time to start planning for replacement. Past 15 years, we typically recommend repairs only up to about 8% of the price of a new installed system, so a small fix like a capacitor or contactor can still make plenty of sense. Larger problems such as a major refrigerant leak, failed control board, compressor, or heat exchanger usually mean it’s time to look at replacement. An older A/C that still uses R-22 refrigerant can also shift the decision toward replacement.

Will you try to sell me a new system I don’t need?

No. Canyon Comfort is a repair-only HVAC contractor in Salt Lake City. We do not sell or install furnaces, air conditioners, or heat pumps, so there is no new system for us to upsell. If your existing HVAC system can be repaired, we’ll explain what we found. If replacement genuinely is the right call, we’ll say so plainly and show you why, and if you’d like, we’ll recommend a local installer we trust. You’re free to get your own replacement quotes and choose any installer you want. If you’d rather have help with that process, our HVAC Install Concierge collects three competing bids from installation companies for you to compare.

My furnace quit and I have no heat — can you come out tonight?

Yes. No-heat calls are an $80 service call weekdays 7am-6pm, with $40 added weeknights until 10pm and all weekend. We find the actual failure and fix it that visit when the part is on the truck — igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches and airflow problems usually are. Parts that have to be ordered, like a control board, are diagnosed first and installed on a return trip.

Can I get a same-day portable A/C while I wait on a repair?

Yes — same-day portable A/C rental is usually available while you wait on a repair. The full cooling package is two high-efficiency portable A/C units plus a portable swamp cooler, covering roughly 900 square feet combined. Delivery, setup, and pickup are $150 total, plus $20 per rental day — the drop-off day and the pickup day each count as a rental day. Need more cooling? A third high-efficiency unit is only $10 more per day. You’re always welcome to call us for temporary cooling, no matter who is handling the repair.

Do you charge a trip charge, travel fee, or mileage fee?

No, we don’t add any travel or mileage fees as long as you’re within our service area. We serve from Ogden down to Provo and from Grantsville across to Coalville and Heber, including the surrounding areas.
