Packed with build-up, the secondary heat exchanger was choking airflow and wasting fuel. In a 90% furnace that exchanger pulls the last of the heat out of the exhaust, and household air passes right across it.
Cleaned during the tune-up so the furnace could breathe again and pull the heat it was designed to.
